This is my (author's) version of the CPRN publication of my research on this topic. The paper is peer-reviewed however - I disagreed with the peer-reviewers on the title (which I can't remember, that's the problem) and the recommendations and lost that battle with regard to the published version. It is available by clicking on the publications link above (something like 'A Preliminary Examination of Stimulus ..... etc. "). There are style and copy edits in the published version that I would have kept, and some style edits I would have rejected. This is partly an exercise based on my interest in the limitations of peer-review, open peer review, transparency of the publication record, and copyright.
I give credit to my supervisor and the peer-editors for their considerable contributions despite our difference of opinion.
